Goodbye treddly

We went and saw some bands last weekend at the horseshoe tavern, this place has been showing live bands since 1947!

The first band of the night was called everybody out! and they rocked.
One of the guys used to be in the dropkick murphys.
They were real good sing a long punk, the frontman was great.
The headliners were the aggrolites, the best new reggae band going around!
They killed it, had the whole crowd dancing. This guy was smashing the organ like nobodies business.
They were ripping and finished with an encore on reggae classics and clash songs! awesome.

Today was the last day of work before we go away to mexico, its also the last day that we can ride our bikes. Its getting pretty cold now, and its going to be really cold when we get back. I will miss riding every day for sure. So here to remind me is a few shot of my daily ride to work.

8am: We get on on our bikes for the 5km ride to work.

8:10: we ride through little Italy along collage street, you can see all the Autumn colours in full bloom.

8:15 Pass university of Toronto
8:20 I turn down and head south toward town, I get a great view of the tower from here.

The leaves are all falling down this time of year.

8:24 I cut through the park, past the Ontario Art gallery. This is being upgraded and will open next month.
There is always people doing Tai Chi in the park.
8:26 I turn onto queen street and pass the TV studios

This photo didn't turn out very well, but they are filming the breakfast news on the other side of the window. The Canadian version of sunrise if you will.

The worst thing when you ride is being stuck next to the trams. They stop every few hundred metres and you can't go past them when they are stopped, meaning you stop every few hundred metres.

8:28 Heading toward the centre of Town, I pass the City Hall.

8:29 I pass the old City Hall (its next door to the new one)

8:30 I get to work.

I work for Canada's oldest company. Hudson Bay Company, they are just a big retail company like Coles Myer.
I do this ride to and from work everyday, I am going to miss getting it when I am waiting in minus 10 degrees waiting for a packed streetcar to arrive.

There probably won't be any posts on here until after we get back for Mexico, but don't fear those day of the dead photos will be up here as soon as we get back. Cheers.

Fall

Hey all, its getting really cold here at the moment, we even had our first snow yesterday! Todays high was 5 degrees and as we speak its dropping to around 0. Even so Autumn here is really nice as all the trees go red and yellow.

We had thanksgiving the weekend before last, everyone here goes to there mum's place for a feed or turkey and pumpkin pie. We had our own little feast, I cooked a chicken. I am pretty proud of this one, no mum required for this feast.

While I was carving it I had the strangest feeling someone was watching me. Weird!
Sarah had veggie meatballs that she made herself.
Probably the best meal we ever cooked for ourselves.
Last weekend was cold but clear, we took a walk through the centre of town. The main street of Toronto is called younge street. It happens to keep going for about 1800km, its the longest continuous street in the world.
Here is me on the worlds longest street
A fair few movies have been made in Toronto recently, you might recognise this building if you have seen the new hulk movie. (I don't think many people have)
A little bit further down Younge and you reach Dundas Square, this is like the centre of town. Its full of advertising billboards mostly.
Head a bit further down the street and you hit the financial district, with tons of old office buildings.
By this point it was starting to get cold so we did what we do best and found a pub. This is Sarah's new favourite beer.Once she got warm and had one of those she was happy.

Nubs is at it again!

She just can't keep out of these pages. We went to see Nofx last week at the Kool Haus in Toronto, and every ones favourite no armed punker was there. She was side of stage for the whole gig, here is a sneaky photo I got.
Sarah was excited about seeing some punk! (not)
The lineup was awesome again, first up was the flatliners, they seem to play every support in town.
Then we were lucky enough to see Dillenger 4. These guys were awesome and really funny. They were also all old and fat, and the singer had a great beard.
Finally NOFX came on, I am sure a lot of you have seen them before and know what they are like.

They played heaps of hits, but the best part of the set was old Nubs in action. She did her first stage dive ever, besically just got hurled from the stage into the crowd. Here is the exclusive footage.

Oh nubs, what you you think of next.

Nuit Blanche

Hey everyone, things have been a bit slow around here lately. We have just been saving and its starting to get cold. But I am going to push on and keep posting more often so keep your eyes here.

Here are a few recent shots from the last couple of weeks. The weekend before last was the last warm one of the year, so we made the most of it. Breakfast on a patio.
We had the north American specialty, the breakfast burrito.

These are awesome, full of egg and potato and spicy goodness.
We spent the afternoon drinking beers on our balcony. These are Sarah's favourite beers,
they are called Amsterdamn, but are brewed in Toronto.
On the weekend Toronto celebrated Nuit Blanche, an arts festival that takes over the city. There are hundreds of art exhibits all over the city. It goes from 7pm to 7am for one night only. We only visited one part of town but it was huge.

This one was actually done by an Aussie, this is where your taxes are going.
All the exhibits were built in and around the streets, the ones we saw were in a part of town called Liberty Village. Its all old factories that have been converted into trendy office spaces and apartments for yuppies.

It worked really well for the event though with different things to see everywhere.

These critters had to keep this up all night.

This was my favourite
The waterfall from a third storey window.
It was a damn cold night though, got down to 5 degrees!

That's just a snow machine though! It was a cool event, was fun to see the stuff, even it most of it was a bit ridiculous.

Till next time..
