Chiapas - San Cristobel de las casas

After Mexico city we headed south, we had a 14 hour bus ride to the southern state of Chiapas. The bus was overnight and left at about 9pm, unfortunately Sarah got a bit of a belly from eating a dodgy roadside taco and started vomiting a few hours before we were supposed to leave. We stocked up on stomach medicine and went ahead anyway.

I think Sarah was just happy to arrive there without painting the bus green.

San Cristobel is where we stayed and it was really cool, its a town of about 200 000, but its really colonial, with tiny cobbled streets and some great buildings.

Its also home to about 15 catholic churchs, although most of them were quite cool and different from the average church.

This is the main catherdral
This one was the coolest, its where the markets are, about 400 metres from the other one.

There were heaps of others
This one was also pretty cool, it was a bit of a climb.

But it was a good view from up there.
Chiapas is home to a big indiginous population. Its also quite poor, but really really interesting as well. There are allot of farmers and they love the cowboy getup, there were saddle stores and shops selling cowboy boots everywhere. I paid $7 for this number.
I might have even been the inspiration for this graffiti I saw later.
