Mehico

Hey all, we just got back from Mexico, by far the most interesting place I have ever been to. We took about 500 or so photos so I am going to have to split this into several blogs.

The first place we visited was Mexico city, one of the biggest cities in the world, with about 20 million people living there. We stayed in the main square and the hostel had a rooftop bar with a great view.
The main square is home to the Catherdral and also the palace. The taxis are mostly VW beetles, there are more here than I had ever seen before.
There are plenty of impressive buildings, they are everywhere.
This monument to the 1919 revolution was the scence of some big protest rally, If only we could speak Spanish we would be able to find out what it was about.
The restaurants in the city centre were terrible, so we mostly ate at the hostel, it wasn't great but they did have a bucket of 6 pacificos for 110 pesos, around $12 (which actually isn't even that cheap). This was the first of many beers for the trip.
We also visited the ancient city of Teotihuacan. This was built by the Aztecs about 2000 years ago, its home to 2 pyramids, the sun and moon. The pyramid of the sun is actually the third biggest in the world.

You can walk to the top of both, but at 2000 metres above sea level the altitude makes it a little harder.

We climbed up the pyramid of the sun, it was a great view from up there.

It was really windy and cold though. We were glad to come back down.
The evenings were usually spent at the rooftop bar.
Because the day of the dead was coming up people were celebrating everywhere, there was sporadic fireworks going off all the time. You can see one in this photo to the right of the dome.
There are heaps more photos and blogs to come so keep coming back, I'll be blogging most days this week to catch up.
